I was raised in the foothills of the El Yunque Rain Forest in Puerto Rico. I attribute my interest in pottery and other art forms to my parents. My mother filled our home with handmade pottery from the local island artisans. My father covered our walls with a tapestry of oil paintings, etchings and woodcarvings from various Caribbean artists.
My adult clay addiction began in
undergraduate school when, as an elective, I took a beginning wheel throwing class. It was a wonderful experience. However, I didn't revisit the clay until after graduate school and 15 years of working in the "real world." I decided to take several classes after work, and suddenly I was hooked. I began to purchase my own equipment, and before I knew it I had my own working studio.
Today, my Caribbean roots continue to influence my work as I explore new styles of whimsical design and the brilliant tapestry of island colors.
